The \u003cstrong\u003enisab (minimum threshold)\u003c\/strong\u003e for income zakat is equivalent to \u003cstrong\u003e85 grams of gold per year\u003c\/strong\u003e, and the zakat rate is \u003cstrong\u003e2.5%\u003c\/strong\u003e.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe \u003cstrong\u003eFatwa of the Indonesian Ulama Council (MUI)\u003c\/strong\u003e states that income refers to \u003cstrong\u003eall earnings\u003c\/strong\u003e, such as \u003cstrong\u003esalaries, honorariums, wages, service fees, and other sources of income obtained through lawful means\u003c\/strong\u003e. This includes both \u003cstrong\u003eregular earnings\u003c\/strong\u003e, such as those received by government officials, employees, and workers, and \u003cstrong\u003eirregular earnings\u003c\/strong\u003e, such as those earned by doctors, lawyers, consultants, and other freelance professionals.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn practice, \u003cstrong\u003eincome zakat can be paid monthly\u003c\/strong\u003e, with the \u003cstrong\u003emonthly nisab equivalent to one-twelfth of 85 grams of gold\u003c\/strong\u003e (based on the \u003cstrong\u003egold buyback price\u003c\/strong\u003e on the day zakat is paid). The applicable zakat rate is \u003cstrong\u003e2.5%\u003c\/strong\u003e.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIf \u003cstrong\u003emonthly income exceeds the monthly nisab\u003c\/strong\u003e, then zakat must be paid at \u003cstrong\u003e2.5% of the income\u003c\/strong\u003e.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThere are various professions with \u003cstrong\u003eboth fixed and variable income streams\u003c\/strong\u003e, where earnings may \u003cstrong\u003efluctuate from month to month\u003c\/strong\u003e. If monthly earnings \u003cstrong\u003edo not reach the nisab\u003c\/strong\u003e, then \u003cstrong\u003eannual income should be accumulated and calculated\u003c\/strong\u003e.
